Dermal Fillers
WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?

The dermal fillers that we use in clinic are made from hyaluronic acid - a substance which is naturally found, produced and broken down in your body.
Hyaluronic acid has excellent water retaining properties and has the capacity to bind a thousand times its weight in water, making it a key ingredient for skin treatments, such as dermal fillers, which are designed to hydrate, plump and smooth the skin.
During manufacturing the hyaluronic acid undergoes a process which determines its end result in terms of product consistency and longevity. This process gives the dermal filler its unique property and allows our aesthetic nurse practitioners, with their understanding of facial anatomy and the process of ageing, a range of dermal fillers to choose from when assessing and planning your treatment.
Dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid can be dissolved, are less likely to cause allergic type reactions and have an improved safety profile.
HOW DO DERMAL FILLERS WORK AND HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

Over time the natural ageing process results in changes to facial structure and our skin loses volume, hydration and plumpness. Hollows appear in areas due to loss of facial volume and gravity allows for the development of jowls, lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers, administered via injection, are designed to treat loss of facial volume and add support to areas of the face which require it, they also offer great skin hydration properties and can be used as a treatment to delay the ageing process.
Depending on the type of dermal filler used and the purpose for its use determines how long the dermal filler will last. On average dermal fillers last between 6 and 18 months. Lifestyle and general health can affect treatment longevity and product metabolism.
WHAT CAN DERMAL FILLERS HELP WITH?

Replacing facial volume
Reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles
Skin hydration
Facial contouring
Improved treatment outcomes when used in combination with other skin treatments.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

Lips are the most commonly known area for dermal filler treatment however great results can be achieved with the use of dermal fillers on other areas of the face. Lip treatments can enhance the shape, volume and appearance of the natural lip and replace strength and structure to an ageing lip.
Marionette lines which appear at the corners of the mouth can be supported by dermal filler to replace lost volume and reduce the appearance of downturn corners of the mouth.
Nasolabial lines, nose to mouth lines, can be treated to replace lost volume, reducing both their depth and appearance and softening facial features.
Cheeks can be treated to provide deep structure to the mid face creating a slight lift to the lower face and subsequently reduce the appearance of jowls, nasolabial and marionette lines. Dermal fillers can also be administered to replace lost volume to the cheek area adding definition and shape back to the mid-face - an excellent contouring treatment.
Jawline and chin treatments are designed to enhance the contours of the lower face and can reduce the appearance of jowl formation.

YOUR CONSULTATION

You will receive an initial face-to-face consultation with your aesthetic nurse practitioner who will take a detailed medical history and listen to your specific skin concerns and goals to determine a treatment plan suitable for you. Photographs will be taken prior to any treatment to create your own skin journey portfolio.
YOUR TREATMENT AND RESULTS

Your skin will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream will be applied to your skin to ease treatment discomfort. This will be left on your skin for 20 to 30 minutes to take effect. The dermal filler is injected into your skin by injection using a technique best suited to the chosen dermal filler and its treatment purpose.
We take all reasonable steps to make the treatment as comfortable for you however there can be some mild discomfort experienced for a short time during treatment. Results are evident immediately after treatment however it takes up to 2 weeks for dermal filler to fully integrate with skin tissue and possible side effects such as swelling or bruising to completely settle.
