Vitamin D Test
WHY TAKE THE TEST?
The body makes vitamin D from direct sunlight on the skin. This vitamin is essential for maintaining healthy bones, teeth, and muscle, as well as regulating the amount of nutrients in your body. Vitamin D deficiency can impact your everyday health in lots of different ways. Vitamin D deficiency is more likely from October to March when there are fewer hours of sunlight
WHAT CAN THE TEST HELP YOU WITH?
Measuring vitamin D levels is important, particularly if you...
Are not exposed to much sunlight. For example: work indoors most of the day, or cover up your skin for cultural or other reasons.
Are over 65 years old. Older skin doesn’t produce vitamin D from sunlight as well as in younger people.
Wear sunscreen everyday.
Have darker skin, as the pigment in the skin reduces the amount of sunlight that can be absorbed.
Are intrigued to find out more.
HOW DOES THE TEST WORK AND WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
The Vitamin D Test is a simple finger prick blood test which is sent to the laboratory for processing. Being aware of your Vitamin D levels is the first step to making positive changes and this test makes it easy for you to track your vitamin levels over time to see how they are changing throughout the year.
WHAT DO THE RESULTS SHOW?
The Vitamin D test will help you understand how your vitamin D levels may be impacting your health and what you can do to help yourself. The test will also signpost you to your GP if required.
